What’s Holding You Back?
When clients are venturing to begin a project, there is the common question of, “When is the best time to start?” However, what I can be certain of is that there is a correct time to begin whatever ambition is set before you.
Within the initial stages of speaking to a new client about beginning a project, there often is a sense of reticence. It can be easy to feel daunted by the endless to-do list set before us, or by the fear of a negative outcome.
Clients may push off a project due to many exterior impacting factors, or think of starting whenever they feel ready in the future.
The Best Time to Start
This may surprise you, but the best time to start any project was 20 years ago. Beginning 20 years ago would have brought you to an entirely new position than you may be in right now.
This is true for almost any successful company. If you consider the stock market, choosing to invest 20 years ago would have greatly impacted your finances. If you observe companies that have made themselves into something great, they probably began 20 years ago.
Admittedly, you may not have been able to start 20 years ago. However, with whatever project that is simmering in your mind, your meetings, your field notes, or your dreams, instead of pushing it off until the time feels right, start it right now. If you start now, you will begin to accumulate the interest that comes with releasing something into the world. That interest is what builds over time, allowing your venture, company, activity, or ambition to stick. Time after time, observing companies that have been successful and events that are great, you will wonder to yourself, “How did that happen? It seemed like it happened overnight.”
No, it happened over a long period of time, because somebody made a decision to start something, and that person persevered. This is what I encourage you to do: Start right now.
