Marketing Strategy: How to Connect the Dots

Connect the Dots

In his bestselling book, “David versus Goliath”, Malcolm Gladwell talks about one of the commonalities between several of the presidents of the United States. That commonality was not the university they went to or the fraternity they were in. In fact, that commonality was actually dyslexia. Dyslexia is the brain’s inability to recognize characters in sequence or in order. How that contributes to several people becoming President of the United States is an interesting story. It happens to be a commonality that I also share. Not that I’m going to become President of the United States anytime soon. I didn’t go to that university and I wasn’t a member of that particular fraternity. But what I do have in dyslexia and that skill dyslexia has taught me is the ability to fill in the blanks.

As a dyslexic kid in the first grade, all I could recognize was the first letter or two at the beginning of a word. Then, I would need to jump and guess at the rest of the word. I learned to do that really, really well. That ability to guess what comes next has stayed with me.

In fact, in business, you often have a limited amount of information and you have to come to a conclusion and make a decision on that limited information. Well, one of the beauties of being dyslexic is I’ve been practicing that for my entire life.

How Connecting the Dots Helps

My particular “super power” is the ability to guess what comes next.  I really enjoy working with clients who are stuck in the whirlwind of everything that needs to get done, helping them to see what is, and what needs to come next in order to get them to their goal. That ability to connect the dots, and some of the dots not even visible to the naked eye, is what I really enjoy and feel I really excel at.

The ability to connect the dots and get you to your goal is really what Goalpost Group is all about.
